Coach/Instructor Code of Conduct

Abide by the rules, policies and procedures of Sheffield Workshop and British Gymnastics. Adhere to all Safeguarding policies and health and safety policies and show good coaching practice.

Maintain appropriate and valid accreditations, DBS, BG membership and safeguarding qualifications.

Focus on gymnasts efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.

Work to instil confidence in the gymnasts ability and skill development, always avoiding comparisons with other gymnasts.

Provide a safe environment that places health, welfare and wellbeing of gymnasts above all else.

Set a good example for all Sheffield Workshop gymnasts and members by demonstrating appropriate behaviour and conduct at all times.

Always dress appropriately in approved sportswear in line with our health and safety policy.

Ensure arrival for every shift on time.

Treat the Sheffield Workshop premises with respect, always ensuring all areas remain clean and tidy.

Display consistent exceptional levels of behaviour, including the use of appropriate language.

Avoid exercises that place Coach and Gymnasts body in close proximity that may be seen as unnecessary by the less informed observer, being sensitive to how the exercises may be perceived to the parent of the child and to use partner exercises with more experienced gymnasts were possible.

Ensure coach/instructor knowledge is progressive and evolving.

Only deliver skills within the syllabus of your qualification.

Actively promote the forbidden use of performance enhancing drugs.

Coaches/instructors must always promote the positive aspects of gymnastics.

Actively promote a safe culture and positive environment for all gymnasts at all times.

Ensure safe dispersal of each gymnast.

Ensure any physical contact with gymnasts is appropriate.

Use appropriate training methods.

Always report concerns/disclosures/accidents and incidents.

The use of mobile phones or recording devices is not permitted at any time during training.
